Biography

Susan trained heavily in tropical field ecology and global studies while earning her B.S in Life Science from Pennsylvania State University in 2007.  Since then she has developed experience working on and with river systems all over the world as a traveling high school science teacher, whitewater kayak instructor, raft guide, water quality technician, and more.  At OSU, Susan is investigating the feedbacks associated with invasive grass species in streams by constructing a hydraulic flume physical model.  She hopes to bring a greater understanding to the specie’s rapid propagation, particularly in the context of river restoration engineering projects.  Susan is also interested in China’s river policy, restoration and engineering, and is concurrently studying Mandarin language in preparation for working on China’s rivers.
